About the Winery:
Pietradolce, means sweet stone in Italian and is an ode to Etna. The volcanic soil covering the slopes is very stony, sandy and mineral-rich. The Etna volcanos abundant mineral components and microclimate cool nights, warm days and wide-ranging temperature variations give Pietradolce wines extraordinary richness, minerality, fragrance and depth.
Notes from the Winemaker:
Pietradolce Etna Rosato is 100% Nero Mascelese obtained from a single vineyard, characterized by a unique microclimate. This is Contrada Zottorinoto at 750 meters above sea level. The Nerello Mascalese grapes, cultivated in the classic “sapling” shape on sandy-loam soil with abundant rock, are harvested at the beginning of October. The gentle pressing, followed by a short period in steel, and above all the unique character of the single vineyard, enhance its minerality and agreeableness on the palate.
Tasting Notes:
Soft ripe nectarine, raspberry coulis and cranberry combine to create a wonderfully summery, attractive wine with vibrant crunchy redcurrant acidity. Dry, crisp, elegant and full, the finish is long with a hint of soft orange peel which lingers.
Food Pairing:
This is a substantive rosato that will stand up to many dishes such as sushi, tuna, caponata (a typical Sicilian dish similar to ratatouille), poultry and cheese.
