WINERY: Monchiero Carbone
COUNTRY: Italy
REGION: Piemonte
APPELLATION: Roero Arneis
GRAPE: 100% Arneis
WINEMAKER NOTES: With intense, floral aromas, this Arneis entices the palate, while the refinement of its lingering, structured taste hints of its ageability and will certainly improve over the years to come. This Arneis is dedicated to grandfather Francesco Carbone, better known as “Cecu d’la Biunda” or “Son of the blond woman” in local dialect, as a nod to him for the Arneis he planted in his vineyards.
TASTING NOTES: Features great depth that evolves slowly into fresh aromas, which vary from white currant to pineapple and hints of sage. Splendid freshness of flavor, which gradually shows its true power and mouth-filling qualities. It gradually develops into a rich and very long finish on which white currants stand out.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Great with chilled seafood and oysters. Pairs perfectly with seafood risottos and oven-baked fish.
ABOUT THE WINERY: Located in Canale, in the heart of the Roero DOCG in Langhe, the Monchiero Carbone winery was established in 1990 with the goal of reuniting vineyards owned by two branches of a family (Monchiero and Carbone) with winemaking tradition dating back to 1918. Today it is owned and operated by husband and wife, Francesco and Lucrezia Monchiero, who specialize in creating Arneis from the best vineyards in the Roero zone. On the label, as a constant reminder of their family's history in the area and the traditions they seek to uphold, the Monchieros have added the phrase (from local dialect) "Ogni uss a l'ha so tanbuss" – "Every door has its knocker."
