WINERY: Cantine Olivella
COUNTRY: Italy
REGION: Campania
APPELLATION: Catalanesca del Monte Somma IGP
GRAPE: 100% Catalanesca

WINEMAKER NOTES: Katà is made from pure Catalanesca grapes. Catalanesca is the most typical grape of the area, which, according to legend, was planted on the grounds of Vesuvius in the 15th century by Alfonso of Aragon.
The vines are planted about 500 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mount Somma and the soil is volcanic mixed with sand. The yield per plant is very low, about 5-6 bunches, and this allows the complexity and finesse of these grapes to be concentrated to the maximum.

TASTING NOTES: Aromas of red apple, crisp pear, stone fruits, some
herbs, light incense. Medium-bodied, silky texture, salty mineral finish

PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Lamb sausages; pasta with meat sauce, mild to intense cheeses.

ABOUT THE WINERY: In the heart of Vesuvius National Park, at the foot of Mount Somma, Cantine Olivella was born. This Somma-Vesuvius complex was formed following the eruption of 79 AD.
The name Olivella derives from a spring that, from the summit of Mount Somma, was used to supply water to the Royal Palace of Charles of Bourbon. Just near this spring, a wine jar was found with "Sextus Catius Festus" written on it, ancient wine producers and their logo, which, to this day, has also become the symbol of Olivella Cellars.
