All around Alba, are the kind of rolling hills which have come to symbolize the Piemontese landscape. Barbera vines thrive in the chalky, limestone-rich clay soils here. The best Barbera d'Alba wines are sourced from hillside vineyard sites such as the ones from Bussia. Barbera d'Alba wines are generally esteemed for their deep color, low tannins and high levels of acidity. When young they offer fresh flavors of cherries, blueberries and raspberries. Relatively rich, bold and flavorful, the most elegant examples, such as this one, might just be compared to Barolo or Barbaresco.
Made from 60+ years old vines. Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts.Fermented and aged in stainless steel tank for 18 months. Aged in bottle for 3 months before release. Barbera Superiore cannot be released until 12 months after harvest.
A serious Barbera that gives Nebbiolo a run for the money, a wine with poise and complexity, deep burgundy color, nose smells of smoke, incense, leather, blackberry, black plum, cranberry, and nutmeg, medium to full body with structured and firm tannin, nice balanced acidity with loads of mineral on the palate, tastes of dark chocolate, dried cranberry, black tea, hibiscus and smoked bacon, long finish with mildly spiciness and licorice aftertaste.
