WINERY: Meroi
COUNTRY: Italy
REGION: Friuli
APPELLATION: Colli Orientali Rosso
GRAPE: 75% Merlot and 24% Refosco
WINEMAKER NOTES: Meroi's small-production wines are fermented and left to age in the same very used barrels. Organic farming is embraced here, and in place of chemical pest control, the family encourages the natural battle between insects.
TASTING NOTES: A deep ruby color, with aromas of plum, bing cherry, currants, violets, tobacco, spice and a hint of smoke. The medium body is vibrant, balanced and well-structured, with a lovely texture, which is underlined by a nice touch of acidity keeping it fresh and inviting through the finish.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Great with medium aged cheese, terrines/pasty. Dark poultry
Grilled meants of any kind, Pizza, pasta and casseroles.
ABOUT THE WINERY: Meroi is a family run wine estate located in Buttrio, amidst the Colli Orientali del Friuli wine area. The winery was founded in 1920 by the current owner, Paolo Meroi’s great-grandfather, Domenico Meroi. Meroi wines are marked with incredible elegance and texture. They are both voluptuous and statuesque, with clean racy acidity that often belies the density hidden just beneath the surface tension. The greatest and utmost care is taken to work with each varietal in a dedicated and passionate way, respecting the terroir and particular aspects of each micro-plot.
