After WWII, returning soldiers were given plots of land to rebuild their lives with. Plot 29, generations later, gave birth to these organic vineyards along the northern coast of Puglia. Alongside the vineyards you can also find mulberry trees which Giuseppe Marrano, owner and founder of the estate,
has immortalized on his labels (Gelso means mulberry in Italian). Giuseppe's love of his homeland, passed down from his father and grandfather, is displayed in his convictions towards a natural and sustainable approach, utilizing biodynamic principals, all to celebrate the indigenous varietals of Puglia.
Nero di Troia, also called Uva di Troia, is a high quality and vigorous grape overshadowed by the two dominant red wine grapes of the region, namely Negroamaro and Primitivo. Many believe, with good reason, that Nero di Troia produces some of the best and most interesting wines in Puglia.
Intense ruby color with violet reflections. On the nose it is rich in essences of
red fruits, figs, hints of spices like black pepper and hints of cloves.
Pair with cured and braised meats, lasagne, Ragù alla Pugliese, grilled chicken or pork, and BBQ. Beautiful with roasted lamb and game meats as well as with aged cheese.
